Sigh And Explode - To Raise the Dead Belongs to the Blackest Art from the album These Seem Like Tarantulas

Spotify link: http://open.spotify.com/track/2AW4LZywfmMH9m2cKb3ggc
Sigh an Explode is a norwegian hardcore/screamoband from Oslo, Norway with inspirations from bands like Blood Brothers and the like. This mars they released their debut album “These Seem Like Tarantulas” which received good reviews. They’re also known for great live performances.
The opening track of This Seem Like Tarantulas is entitled “To Raise the Dead Belongs to the Blackest Art”, and it’s the song I’ve selected. It’s a really high energy track, and it shows how to combine aggression, desperation and good melodies. Awesome drumming is also appreciated.

Converge - Dark Horse from the album Axe to Fall.

Spotify-link: http://open.spotify.com/track/39wky0R2DwmwklqXH4LaET
The follow up to Converges “No Heroes” was released this year, with great reviews from the norwegian press. It’s a VERY intense record, something the opening track “Dark Horse” is an example of. Drummer Ben Koller displays some great moves throughout the album. It’s both aggressive and heavy, a must-have album for all metal fans? Perhaps.

Kasabian - Underdog from the album West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

Spotify link: http://open.spotify.com/track/3PbsDnKdrZY0ttX7VE9s5R
Kasabian is a british indie band with inspirations from, among others, the Madchester scene which was big before Brit Pop in the early 90’s. The Madchester scene mixed indie rock, psychedelic rock and dance music. Underdog is the first track from their newest record entitled “West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum”(!). The song features nice catchy guitar riffs, and good song buildup, which is appreciated. Hope you enjoy it!

Hacride - My Enemy from the album Lazarus.

Spotify link: No spotify link :(. But check them out on myspace: Hacride on myspace
Hacride is a french technical metal band. I discovered them when they played this years Hole in the Sky festival here in Bergen. Their latest album is called Lazarus, and it’s from this record that my selected track is to be found.
My Enemy is a long track, as many of the tracks from Lazarus. I think it stands out from the crowd by having a pretty magnificent moment at precisely 07:00. It’s a nice and heavy moment I’m sure all metalheads will appreciate. It’s pretty epic. That’s enough reasons for me to add this song to this list.
Here’s a live video of the track: Hacride - My Enemy (live)

Flight of the Conchords - Carol Brown from the record I Told You I Was Freaky.

Spotify link: http://open.spotify.com/track/0nlNf6h6vQANi1VSlh3Aau
The second season of Flight of the Conchords was unfortunately (but not unexpected) not as good as the first season, for various reasons. One reason was that the songs were not quite as strong. I also felt that several songs were quite misplaced, with no connection to the story line.
“I Told You I Was Freaky” is the name of the record containing songs from the second season, and on this we find one of the songs that were misplaced in the season: Carol Brown. In itself it’s actually a really nice song. It’s both warm, fuzzy and indeed very funny. “Who organize all of my ex girlfriends into a choir and got them to sing? Who? Who?”. I like. You like?

Immortal - Norden on Fire from the record All Shall Fall

Spotify link: http://open.spotify.com/track/3t2MsNaz6xYkaXx5pAoBhV
The legendary black metal band from Os outside of Bergen, Norway, disbanded in 2003. In 2007 they got back together, and in 2009 they released their follow up from the great Sons of Northern Darkness called “All Shall Fall”. They received good reviews, and it was made clear that this was pretty much the same Immortal as we had heard in 2002, and that’s good news.
My selected track is a bit slower than some of the other tracks, but has that mighty Immortal feeling. Great!

Arctic Monkeys - Pretty Visitors from the album Humbug.

Spotify link: http://open.spotify.com/track/7LQYHt7q67kKlNNkEiiAZI
I’m traditionally a pretty big Arctic Monkeys fan, I really enjoyed their last two albums. I must admit that I was a bit let down by Humbug (I don’t think the influence from Josh Homme, Queens of the Stone Age, was of positive nature), but I think that the track Pretty Visitors is a fairly decent track with awesome drumming, an aspect I must admit is quite important for a drummer like me. It has a good progression throughout the song, and it never bores you.
Other good tracks from the album is the single “Crying Lightning” and the opening track “My Propeller”.

Hi!

It’s already December, and I’ve decided to make an advent calendar here at saiboten.com. The rules are simple: I’ve created a list of 24 great tracks from albums released this year, and I will create a new post for each day, hopefully containing a spotify-link to the track if it’s available there. I will also mention my thoughts about the track and the album it’s taken from, it should be fun!
I might do changes to my list internally, but here are some basic facts about the currently selected tracks:
There are 8 songs from Norwegian bands/artists, 4 of them are from Bergen.
There are 12 songs from the hard rock/metal genre.
The longest band name is 33 characters long, and the longest song name is 37 characters long.
The shortest band name is 3 characters long, the shortest song name is 6 characters long.
The shortest track is under 2 minutes, and the longest track is almost 10 minutes.
I’ve made a (hopefully) continuously updated spotify playlist which you can check out, here it is: http://open.spotify.com/user/saiboten/playlist/1kFyeAFbfDRBUrRHsUSo5O

Has this error occured when you try to commit something to SVN? It happened to me, and while debugging it, I discovered that it was caused by the commit message containing newline characters.
If I tried commiting something like
“1

Solution: Don’t have newlines in your commit messages. If you have a better solution, please use the comment function!
UPDATE: This only happens in Windows (Vista).

Me and some guys from “the office” (namely Peder1 and Morten) have started a podcast called Podcastination. It’s being hosted at josteinb.com/podcastination or podcastination.saiboten.com. It will probably feature Jostein and some other guys in the future, so stay tuned.
It’s supposed to be a weekly event (new podcasts released every friday), with light entertainment. The podcast is in norwegian. The pilot is out now, so please tune in.
